One of the strongest bonds of friendship in Bollywood has fallen like a pack of cards in recent times. Karan Johar and Kajol’s camaraderie went a long way back as they worked in several films together, right from Johar’s directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum and My Name Is Khan. The 25 year old friendship had been under strain for a while but has now gone completely kaput, as confirmed by Karan in his still-to-be-released autobiography An Unsuitable Boy.
“I don’t have a relationship with Kajol anymore. We’ve had a fallout. Something happened that disturbed me deeply which I will not talk about because it’s something that I like to protect and feel it would not be fair to her or to me. After two and half decades, Kajol and I don’t talk at all. We just acknowledge each other, say ‘hello’ and walk past,” reads an excerpt from his book.
Things soured between the former best friends during the promotions of Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Kajol’s husband Ajay Devgn’s dream project Shivaay last year. The two movies were to clash at the box office and Ajay accused Dharma Productions (Karan’s company) of having paid Kamaal R Khan (a self proclaimed film critic) to promote Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and badmouth Shivaay.
Karan said that the accusation hurt him deeply and he feels that she doesn’t deserve him anymore.
“I wouldn’t like to give a piece of myself to her at all because she’s killed every bit of emotion I had for her for twenty-five years. I don’t think she deserves me. I feel nothing for her any more,” reads the excerpt.
Ouch. That’s a lot of raw emotions out there.
Surely a lot has transpired between these former best buds. The Karan – Kajol – Shah Rukh Khan friendship was so iconic that SRK was the first person Karan called up after his fallout with Kajol. So will we see King Khan play peacemaker in this feud? Let’s wait and watch.
